Robbery at gunpoint... for realz

Yeah, seriously. I'm not making it up. This all happened last Thursday night, around 1am. I have some comments about it, but let me tell you how it happened first:
Nick and I were in the living room sitting on the couch - I was studying and he was watching tv - when there was a knock on the door. Figuring it was one of my roommate's friends (as it usually is at 1 am), Nick got up and answered the door. Instead, we saw 3 guys standing there: all wearing thuggish clothes, all wearing masks and gloves, and the one with the yellow mask had a big gun that looked like an M-5 sub machine gun. We kind of all paused and stared at each other for a second, then they began barging in. The shortest one hit Nick in the face, catching him off-guard, and the one with the yellow mask and big gun yelled, “Shut the fuck up and get down!” as he ran past Nick and down the hall. I turned and watched him pass, too stunned to do more than say, “No, don’t!” since my baby was in his room asleep (his room is across the hall from my roommate’s). The 3rd guy came at me, apparently holding a pistol when I turned and grabbed my phone to call the cops. I started to hit him hard in the face and head, and when Nick saw him, he yelled, “Get offa her!” and jumped on him. In the struggle, the guy fired 2 shots into the hall. The guy at the end of the hall was trying with all his might to kick my roommate’s door in, but he was on the other side bracing it. The guy who punched Nick hit him over the head with my ceramic incense burner, which broke and gave him a nasty cut, then the guy on me went to hit Nick a few times before yelling, “ Phone!” (since I still had it in my hand and was dialing 911) and ran out the door. Nick was still fighting the short one as the guy with the yellow mask and bigger gun came up from the hall (which put him behind the couch I was still sitting on) and pointed the gun at me from an angle about a foot away. Without hesitating, I grabbed the gun barrel and held on tight, then jumped over the back of the couch (I’m still not sure how I did that) and hit him with the elbow of the arm I still had hold of the phone with. He was trying pretty hard to get the gun away from me and did when I stumbled after hitting him. The 911 operator answered as he ran past Nick and shoved him into the window by the door hard enough to break it and the last 2 guys ran outside. As I was yelling my address at the 911 operator, Nick noticed that he was bleeding pretty bad and I told the operator to send an ambulance and cops. They showed up about 10 min later as I was checking on the baby. Nick’s wounds weren’t serious enough to need stitches, but they bandaged him up. Here’s what he looked like 2 days after it happened [link] We all filed police reports, then Nick, the baby, and I all went over to a friend’s to stay the night. Nick and I have been sleeping on the living room floor just in case since then.
We DO know who did it. They’d been running their mouths to our neighbor’s son about it, and the mom is my friend and told me about it. We told the cops who 2 of them were (still not sure about the 3rd guy), and they were arrested shortly thereafter at a place being watched by the DEA for coke dealing (of all the places to go after a failed robbery where the people knew who you were and what you drive). They couldn’t hold them for lack of evidence for the robbery, but they had other charges against them and a pretty high bond for those that no one will pay. Nick got 2 of their masks and a bag with a name on it away from them, so hopefully DNA comes back on those to convict them. He didn’t see their faces after getting the masks, but we still know who it was.
Now, allow me to comment on how terrible they are at planning an armed robbery (yes, only me and my friends get robbed at gunpoint and go, “Bad form!” ). First off, they knocked. Who knocks when you’re gonna rob someone? Second, there were 2 cars in the driveway and the lights were on. Obviously more than one person is there. Third, THE GUNS WERE FAKE!! Yes, they brought a bb gun pistol and an empty M-5 style PAINTBALL gun. If you’re gonna end up charged with armed robbery, go all the way and get real guns. Third, they were only expecting it to be my roommate’s house, which it IS NOT. It is MY house, and he just lives there. And all of the valuables are mine and my boyfriend’s, not his. Fourth, they had masks made from t-shirts, and a bag with a name on it, which easily got away from them. DUMB! Fifth, they were expecting to intimidate us with the FAKE guns, when all of us know what a real gun looks like. Sixth, they were definitely NOT expecting ANY of us to fight back, especially me, and got their asses kicked by a girl. Bet they feel like some tough thugs now, huh? Seventh, they had NO CLUE what they were doing. NO plan at all. I think they were trying to get pot and money from my roommate, neither of which he had. And it just went all bad for them. They were only there like 40 seconds, for real. And they had a STUPID FUCKING REASON for it. Apparently, my roommate had said something to this guy’s girlfriend about him smoking pot and he thinks that’s why she left him (NOT the case, he was an abusive asshole, and that’s why she left). So he spent 4 months planning on how to gain my roommate’s trust and then break in and steal all his shit (meaning MY shit). But this didn’t work out for him since he’s a shady bastard anyway and we never trusted him. Can you believe they spent 4 MONTHS planning that, only to have it blow up so quickly? I mean, for not getting shit and getting beat up, they got 4 felonies for what they did: breaking and entering, armed robbery, aggravated assault and battery, and assault with a deadly weapon. 4 Felonies over bullshit!! Let alone the other shit they had going on their records. They aren’t getting out of jail for a LONG while. And if anyone in prison finds out they assaulted a woman and there was a baby in the house? None of them are making it out alive. You get shanked for that kind of shit….. but I digress….

Overwhelmed
Yeah, for some reason, I had an art explosion this weekend. I bought a new sketchbook at the campus bookstore. I was like, "YAY!! Only $4! w00t!!" .... then the paper was super shitty quality, like it peals up big blotchy layers whenever I use my eraser... bleh... but I'm using it anyway... can't erase my final pencil lines after inking, though... it chooses to erase the ink, too.... >.< *fail*
